Recent Residents

posted Thursday, 26 June 2008

Last July, I wrote about two more residents at our new house.  HERE is the post if you want to read it.  We've had other residents join us.  I know it is because of the open fields behind the house and the fact that about three weeks ago they started moving dirt around for new streets.  Some of them are not exactly wanted.  The welcome mat was not out for the field mice that we had last fall, and certainly not for the ones in the garage!

We've always had spiders and bugs.  Last week, our exterminator guy found a black widow spider and her babies on the front porch.  Yipes!

In the spring, two barn swallows tried to build a nest on a tiny ledge just inside our back patio.  I don't mind nests and babies, but I don't care for the poop that comes with them.  So we would shoo them away, and Bill hosed down the beginnings of their nest.  Birds are not that dumb; they didn't try again.

About a month ago, we put a feeder out in our back yard in the hopes of attracting hummingbirds.  We've seen one!

In our one and only tree, there is now a bird's nest.  That's better than the patio.  Bill said that there weren't any eggs in it.  We don't know what kind of bird built the nest.  I guess we'll have to start watching closer.

The cutiest residents are the two bunnies hopping around in the front yard.

A black widow spider. That is scary. I don't think we have them in Pa? Now field mice we have. That reminds me, I better check the trap in our garage.
