Thoughts on My Retirement
posted Saturday, 31 March 2007
At year ago today was my last day of working. I have a few thoughts about life as a retired person. I've had a lot more good thoughts about retirement, but those I've listed below pretty much sum up most of them.
1. It is nice to be paid for not working.
2. It is great that I’ve set my alarm only twice in one year—once to catch a plane to Las Vegas and once to get up in time for an early breakfast with family after a busy time the day before.
3. I like not having to get up and around the first thing in the morning. Well, I do that sometimes, but it is to go to fun places and do fun things.
4. There’s a whole lot less stress in my life.
5. This past year has gone by so fast. It reminds me of a kid remembering a great summer vacation when school is about the start and wondering where the time went.
6. I do household chores and errands during the day Monday through Friday that I used to do in the evenings or the weekends. Now I enjoy the evenings and weekends doing the things I like or doing nothing.
7. I have more time to do the things that I like—crocheting, reading, working on the computer, being with friends, etc.
8. I love being retired!

What shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
He who did not spare His own son, but delivered Him up for us all,
how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
